Cybele

Finally, here is my take on Cybele (or Matar Kubeleya, or Kybele, or Kuvava, or Magna Mater), a Mother Goddess with orgiastic rites originating from Phrygia/Anatolia (located in modern-day Turkey) who later was revered by the Greeks and the Romans. She was associated to mountains, fertile nature, city walls and wildlife, especially lions. In Greece, she became partially assimilated to aspects of Gaia (the Earth), Rhea (Cronus' wife) and Demeter (the goddess of agriculture).
Her priests castrated themselves, like Attis, a sheperd god of vegetation whom she cursed with madness out of jealousy. She also turned Atalanta and Hippomenes into lions after they had sex in one of her temples. But she nonetheless helped Dionysus to recover his sanity after Hera made him go crazy. Cybele was also assimilated to Artemis' fertile aspect, her statues being sometimes multi-breasted.
