Queen Medb

Here's my vision of Queen Medb (or Méabh, or Maedbh, or Maeve, pronounced "mayv"), the legendary warrior queen who once ruled Connacht (a western province of Ireland) in Celtic Irish Mythology. She was an ambitious and cunning character, who was often seen as a sovereignty goddess whom kings had to marry in order to reign over her land. Medb was heavily associated to mead, a beverage which was offered to freshly crowned rulers, and her name was often interpreted as "she who intoxicates". She often opposed the hero Cu Chulainn, especially during the Cattle Raid of Cooley.

She then inspired the character of Queen Mab, a fairy queen very similar to Titania, present in post-christianisation British Folklore and made famous by Shakespeare.
