Here is my take on the Erlkönig (or Erlking, but both names mean "King of alders"), a malevolent forest spirit originating from Danish tales, but made famous by German Romantic literature (mostly by the poem "Erlkönig" written by Goethe). It preys on travelers (mostly children) lost in his forest at night ; first he tries to charm them with gold, games, his daughters, but violently steals their soul in the end, killing them in the process...
